Robert J. Penny, M.D., Ph.D.,

Executive Director, expO (The Expression Project for Oncology)
Dr. Penny is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Caris MPI, the first company to commercially introduce gene expression into oncology in the U.S. He is one of the co-founders of the International Genomics Consortium (IGC), the Chief Medical and Operating Officer of IGC, and the Executive Director of their national expression project for oncology (expO). Dr. Penny is the Principle Investigator for The Cancer Genome Atlas Project and Chairs the NIH Biospecimen, Biomolecule and Production Working Group. Dr. Penny is a recognized expert in the translation of diagnostics into patient care as well as in biorepositories. He has established two national esoteric reference medical laboratories, a national tissue bank and analysis center, and a national genomics program. He has helped bring cellular and molecular diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic testing to patients throughout the nation with leukemia, lymphoma and solid tumors. He has headed up genomic strategies for AmeriPath, the largest provider of anatomic pathology in the United States.
Dr. Penny received his B.S., M.S., Ph.D. (Genetics) and M.D. from the University of Arizona and then went on to receive his pathology training at Harvard's Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, where he served as chief resident and completed fellowships in hematopathology and surgical pathology. Dr. Penny's contributions include a textbook in oncology, publication of articles, and directorship roles in laboratory management.

David Mallery, Esq., M.B.A.,
President
David Mallery is a co-founder and oversees the financial, legal and corporate development. He was the founding (pro-bono) Chief Financial Officer of IGC. He is also the Managing Director of a private placement firm in San Diego, CA, and Phoenix, AZ. Mr. Mallery was formerly the Principal Venture Analyst for the Calvert Group's venture and equity fund investments, helping place investments in life sciences, biotechnology, and resource conservation. From 1993 to 1996, he helped establish an independent biological science agency at the U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington, DC. Mr. Mallery is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.
David Mallery received a B.A. in Human Biology and Studio Art from Stanford University and a Juris Doctor and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar Association.

Daniel Von Hoff, M.D., F.A.C.P.,
Executive Director, Tissue Banking and Analysis Center Inc.
Dr. Von Hoff is Executive Vice President of TGen, and is an internationally recognized leader in cancer drug development. He brings unparalleled clinical expertise to Caris MPI. Dr. Von Hoff also serves as Professor of Medicine, Molecular and Cellular Biology and Pathology at the University of Arizona. Dr. Von Hoff served as the Director of the Arizona Cancer Center at the University of Arizona from 2003 to April of 2005. He is also Chief Scientific Officer for U.S. Oncology.
Dr. Von Hoff's major interest is in the development of new anticancer agents, both in the clinic and in the laboratory. He and his colleagues were involved in the beginning of the development of many of the agents we now use routinely, including: mitoxantrone, fludarabine, paclitaxel, docetaxel, gemcitabine, CPT-11, and others. At present, he and his colleagues are concentrating on the development of molecularly targeted therapies.
Dr. Von Hoff's laboratory interests and contributions have been in the area of in vitro drug sensitivity testing to individualize treatment for the patient, mechanisms of gene amplification, particularly of extrachromosomal DNA, and understanding of and targeting telomere maintenance mechanisms. He and his laboratory are now concentrating on discovery of new targets in pancreatic cancer. He has published more than 493 papers, 122 book chapters, and more than 832 abstracts.
Dr. Von Hoff is the past President of the American Association for Cancer Research, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member and past board member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is a founder and board member of ILEX Oncology, Inc. (ILXO, Nasdaq). He is founder and the Editor Emeritus of Investigational New Drugs, The Journal of New Anticancer Agents; Co-Editor of ONE, Oncology Economics; and, Editor of Molecular Cancer Therapeutics. He is also proud to have been a mentor and teacher for multiple medical students, medical oncology fellows, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows.

Todd Maney, Ph.D., M.B.A.,
Vice President, Clinical Programs
Dr. Maney was involved in the early development of The Molecular Profiling Institute's Target Now program and has a depth of experience in business and scientific research. Dr. Maney received his Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Washington, Seattle. He has published several research articles in the field of cell division, an area with direct ties to cancer biology. Dr. Maney received a B.S. in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.B.A. from Arizona State University.

Gregg Murray, B.Sc.,
Vice President, Software Engineering
Gregg Murray has a track record of leading successful custom and commercial software projects. He is driven to create simple, eloquent technical solutions. Gregg received a B.S. degree in Operations Research from the United States Air Force Academy and achieved the rank of Captain. As an officer in the United States Air Force, Gregg led and managed several successful communications and computer systems projects in Air Force Space Command and Air Force Intelligence Command. He successfully transitioned to the private sector as a software consultant and Java Architect where he designed, developed and implemented web-based applications for many mission-critical projects for a wide range of customers in diverse industries. Gregg created a dynamic web-enabled product availability and compatibility matrix for BMC Software. He provided technical leadership at Williams Gas Pipeline to a team of 200+ developers to merge 5 distinct business systems and processes into a single system, the 1Line System. He built a financial reporting system for Texas State Lottery retailers and led the conversion of a 200+ screen client server application into a J2EE compliant web-based sales and use tax management system for Burr Wolff Tax Consultants.

Julie La Rocca, M.S.,
Director of IHC Assay Development & Quality Assurance
Julie La Rocca focuses on the development of esoteric Immunohistochemical (IHC) assays to enhance personalized medicine through the profiling of each patient's specific tumor for the Target Now Program. Julie has a depth of knowledge about the development of IHC assays utilizing esoteric antibodies for profiling cell signaling pathways. Julie has also played an integral role in the start up and compliance of the Molecular Profiling laboratory. Julie comes to The Molecular Profiling Institute from Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. where she was a Research Scientist central to the development of new esoteric antibody tests for IHC. Julie received her B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Arizona, and an M.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
